Meet Tyler, our Food Service Manager


We have recently hired a new Food Service Supervisor.  He has been a wonderful addition to our team. I asked him to tell me about his background;

“I am from Kitchener Ontario, and I have been cooking for over 20 years. I started as a dishwasher in an Indonesian restaurant at the age of 15. During my Culinary apprenticeship, I had the pleasure of working in Banff Alberta, Vancouver, Muskoka Ontario and Ireland.

I have worked in hotels, restaurants, resorts and of course, retirement residences. I was lucky enough to experience the Olympics when it was hosted in Vancouver in 2010.  I have enjoyed cooking for people from all over the world, some notable places include The Banff Springs (Alberta), Pan Pacific (Vancouver) and The Glen Eagle (Killarney, Ireland)

I have been managing kitchens for 9 years and have been a certified chef for 11 years. I am married with two children and recently moved to Brockville. We wanted to move closer our families and we are thrilled to be here.

I asked Tyler about his transition from hotels & restaurants to the retirement industry;

“In 2008 when my wife became pregnant with our first Child, I was working a lot of hours and late nights at a hotel. A colleague at work approached me and asked if I ever though of cooking in a retirement residence. To be honest, the thought had never crossed my mind. He informed me that there was a very high demand for certified chefs, the pay is very good and the hours make it comfortable for a family man.  Switching over to the retirement business has opened up many doors for me, and allowed me the opportunity to grow as a manager. “

When asked about how he has enjoyed his new role at Royal Brock Retirement, he responded;

“The thing that has stood out the most is the feeling of being a part of a family here at  Royal Brock Retirement. I have been welcomed with open arms and my supporting staff have been very accommodating.  I am blessed and grateful to have such a strong team in the food service department both kitchen and dietary. The management team is ready to help and answer any questions I have and offer coaching advice whenever I call. I feel very comfortable here and I am committed to giving my best everyday.”
