Remembrance Day 2021
Today we honored our Veterans. The Brockville Rifles attended our ceremony. They stood outside, in solidarity to salute our very own heroes.
After the ceremony, they gathered outside to listen to our residents share their memories of war. To hear what they have gone through, in order for us to have our freedom, was very moving. Our freedom is something that should never be taken for granted. We feel it is so important to never forget.
Each passing year, we have fewer Veterans. Theirs are the memories that will live on. It is up to us to pass their history onto future generations, so they are never forgotten. It is such an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with such incredible people.
CTV News and The Recorder and Times captured this moment today. We want to thank Bryanna Normandeau, for helping to once again make this a reality for our residents, and a huge thank you to The Brockville Rifles for attending. Jess and Rachel put together a beautiful ceremony for both The Royal Suites, and Royal Brock Retirement.
In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae,
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
