Meet Audrey Higgins

Audrey has lived at Royal Brock Retirement since November 2017.
Audrey was born in Montreal, and was raised in Beaconsfield, Quebec. She was married in Pointe Claire and moved to several different cities in Ontario. Audrey was employed at Kemptville college, she and her husband retired in Brockville in 1989.
Audrey was drawn to Brockville because she had family here, and fell in love with the city, and all it has to offer.
When asked what attracted her to Royal Brock Retirement, she said “I was coming here for my Beta Sigma Phi meetings. I was struck by how incredibly friendly and accommodating the staff are here. I was also surprised by how large the suites are.”
“I’ve always been very active in the community. I go to Rug hooking, tai chi, Swedish weaving, craft and chat, and the Walker House Culture Centre in Prescott. Moving into Royal Brock has allowed me to focus my attention on my hobbies because I’m not having to worry about maintaining my home.”
“Here, I never have to worry. I go out almost every day, and Scott always has my car cleaned off and warmed up for me. It’s so nice, because we’ve had such an icy winter”.
“There’s always different activities to choose from here as well and what I really like is how quickly management responds to requests. I asked for strength training, and within a week, there was a personal trainer offering strength training in the gym! I think that’s because we are privately owned. I really like that”.
“I like that there’s choice too. The meals are very good and on top of having options, the chef has created an alternate menu. It’s nice to always have the option of having something different”.
“I don’t need help with my medications yet, but I’ve heard from other residents how convenient it is to have the wellness team handle medications, ordering and keeping everything straight. There isn’t a charge for it, so it’s nice for people to that choice.”
Audrey’s suite is stunning. I asked her about the chandeliers, as they are the first thing you notice. Audrey said she really feels at home because she was able to bring so much with her. She told me how important the chandeliers were to bring with her. Her parents knew how fond she was of chandeliers, and when she and her husband bought their first home, they purchased them as a gift for her. They have been in every home she’s ever owned and now, they adorn the ceilings of her suite.
I asked Audrey if she is happy at Royal Brock Retirement and she responded. “Absolutely, I’m very happy!”
