Making the best of a less than ideal situation – Eat, Drink & Be Merry

In Life, sometimes we are thrown a curve ball.  Today, at Royal Brock Retirement Living, we received notification from that we are to close our doors to any non-essential visitors. This is the case for all Retirement and Long Term Care Residences in Ontario due to the pandemic, Covid-19. Some family members were turned away at the door. The day started with some tears and a few residents needing reassurance that it’s a virus, and they will be safe. All of the steps being taken are precautionary measures.

Let’s face it.  These are scary times. But our staff really came together to support our residents.  Management was in, and our incredible Activity Co ordinator went above and beyond, as usual.   She had planned a wine and cheese event but amid new precautions, had to switch things up a bit. Charcuterie boards were no longer an option. So she and the chef got to work  preparing 45 individual paper-plate platters of fine meats and cheeses.

I love our atmosphere of Royal Brock.  We really are a great big family.  All day staff have been texting back and forth with different ideas how to make this easier on our residents.  Bryanna has already posted on her facebook wall asking friends to have their kids write letters and draw pictures to share with the residents. We are planning a karaoke day because we had to cancel entertainers, she has arranged virtual museum tours in the movie theatre. We will make the best of things, because that’s what families do.

Please reach out to your families on the phone, we can skype, or we can share our cell phone numbers with you so you can facetime each other. We will get through this, and we will have fun doing it!
